Servers required to declare tips before clocking out
Several POS companies including xxxx can require the wait staff employee to declare tips in order to open the option of clocking out. The business justification for this feature is that the IRS requires that wait staff employee tips must be declared at some point anyway, as part of the payroll process, by the employer. This shifts that responsibility to the wait staff employee so the employer/manager/accountant does not have to spend literally hours sifting through each individual's hours and sales to determine tips to declare for each shift. The employee needs to input that data easily at the end of each shift when fresh on their mind.
