Online Menu vs. Inventory Categories
We are a Grocery Store with Food To Go and a Coffee Bar. It seems to be easy for a restaurant to set up an online Food To Go Menu but not another business type. We are adding an online menu with curbside pickup for the Coffee and Food to Go with select products. Setting up an online food menu is not user friendly if inventory/menu items are also sold as a grocery items as well as food to go.
Each grocery item has an assigned category. An online Food To Go Menu needs different (restaurant style) Categories (than groceries) to be customer friendly. Creating new food menu categories for products requires putting current products in two or more categories. The problem is the current programming of the online menu requires that if an item is assigned more than one category it will show up on the menu in all of the assigned categories. Therefore the same product shows up multiple times and the menu becomes long.
We would like to be able to create an online menu that has more flexibility. Perhaps a product could be assigned a food menu category and a grocery category but only the menu item is visible online. For example: A variety of Bobo's Breakfast Bars are assigned the Grocery-Panty Category (which makes it easy for ordering.). On the Online menu the are assigned Breakfast Food category. There is no way to deselect Grocery-Panty and therefore this product will be listed in two places on the Menu, (Breakfast Food and Grocery/Pantry). Our online menu has about 40 unique items on it, 30 items fall into 2 categories which means the menu appears to have 70 items. This is difficult to describe. Please contact us for more information.
