Cash Drawer Security Ideas
I have a QSR merchant that is counter-service with cashier's, we've been playing with a few ideas for theft prevention as one of the most common ways for employees to steal from the restaurant is manipulating the till.
As a QSR restaurant, they have a very small menu and the prices are very easy to memorize for the cashiers. What is concerning is that the cashier can keep the till open without any alarm, alert, or any notice to the management whatsoever.
Idea 1: Force the cashier to close the till before running another sale regardless of tender, by not allowing another sale unless the till is closed.
Idea 2: Notify management when the till is open for longer than a period.
Idea 3: Alert the manager when the till wasn't closed after a transaction closed and another opened.
We obviously can't prevent theft, but we can create safeties to alert management.

We have a suggestion to improve cash handling security: requiring the cash drawer to be closed after each transaction before allowing the next one to proceed. This additional setting in the system would serve as a protection against mishandling cash sales. By ensuring the cash drawer must be closed before processing the next transaction, it would prevent situations where an employee might bypass entering a transaction and simply take cash from an open drawer to make change for the next customer.
Implementing this feature would enhance the accuracy and security of cash transactions, providing better control and accountability in our operations.
Thank you for considering this suggestion.
