Periodic cleaning of the print head should allow the printer to last the life of the machine. Print heads have been tested to >30 miles of printed paper with typical receipt content.

Have the option to ask for customer phone number when ringing up order at register. In the KDS once to order is marked as ready a text message gets sent to the customer letting them know their order is ready.
