Hi there, Boise Art Glass We often process transactions that have three specific variables: Taxable items, non-taxable items, and a discount. Through many help calls, we discovered that the reason our books were never balancing was that the Clover algorithm does not take the total from the taxable items, minus the discount, then only apply that amount to the sales tax rate, then add the cost of the non-taxable item and the other totals. What it does is looks at the total, of both the taxable and non-taxable items, and discerns what percent of the total was discounted, turns that percent into a dollar amount, then applies sales tax to the total. We tried to just separate the transactions but that is becoming quite the ordeal. What ends up happening is we are not collecting enough sales tax from the customer, so we as a company have to eat that cost. I understand it is never a large amount; $0.20 here and $0.75 there, but over time that amounts to enough that it seems ludicrous to be expected to always tell the customer, " Hey sorry I have to swipe your card a bunch of different times, our system isn't smart enough to allow me to appropriately charge sales tax". Not that we are saying that to the customer but you get the gist. Also, we are responsible fiscally for each transaction we make. Again, the difference in cost is menial if it is a rare occasion, however, we are doing them multiple times a week. If we could nix the current protocol, or have an option to apply a discount to a sole group of items and calculate that total against sales tax rate then add the non-taxable item etc. that would help so much. I cannot imagine we are the only ones using your system this would benefit from. I went through several help calls, got escalated up to engineering and was told no, we're not changing anything to suit your needs. The person who I was working with directly was amazing, and I get that those individuals are beholden to what they are being told. That being said it was super dismissive to hear that no one was going to change a simple step to help us save money. I cannot ask my employees to bust out a calculator and manually compute how much of the discount can be applied to each item because the discount is always larger than the price of the item.
