Partial refunds are available on the merchant dashboard via transactions detail page and via e-commerce API.

I see this post was almost a year ago about this being released in the future. WHEN will be be available? UPDATES? It's absurd this feature does not exist on the virtual terminal/gateway.

Partial and open refunds from the virtual terminal is a very important feature for businesses! Merchants often refund a portion of a transaction. It does not make sense that to do this, they must refund the full amount, and then obtain full card number, exp date, cvv and zip to then run the correct amount. Plus, why in the world are debit transactions not able to be refunded from the virtual terminal? Super disappointed to have discovered this.

We plan to launch the ability to do a partial refund from the web dashboard. Currently, we don't plan to add partial refunds on device that go beyond refunding by item in the Orders app.

Need an option for a custom partial refund on a previous transaction. Example: customer had a private party at a restaurant. For parties, we add a service charge on all food/beverage items purchased. After leaving the premises customer realized an item they didn't order was added to their bill. Without card present we are only able to refund the whole transaction or some items, including tax. Problem is, that besides tax there was a service charge added as well to every item. Need a manual refund option to link to a previous transaction to be able to refund a custom amount, no card currently present. Not only we had to apologize to the customer for our mistake, but also inconvenience the customer by trying to get hold of them to get their credit card number so we could process the correct amount to refund.

We have a huge wholesale parts business and often have the need to refund partial transactions due to parts returned. It is very time consuming obtaining the credit card number in order to process a partial refund. We would be extremely helpful l if Clover could add this feature.
Thank you -

The ability to do partial refunds on both cardholder-present and card-not-present transactions is important to our business. Mistakes happen. Special promos happen. Special consideration for delays happen. Order changes happen. We must be flexible.
Refunding the full amount, and then charging the new amount is convoluted. It would be much simpler to offer a partial refund.
. It's disapointing that this basic feature is not present on Clover terminals.

I've been doing these sorts of transactions since electronic payment terminals were first introduced into Canada (over 30 years ago!). It's disapointing that this basic feature is not present on Clover terminals.

We are on Flex and need to issue a partial transaction refund (not an item or transaction). We sell produce and if a customer buys an item and half of the box of vegetables is bad, we want to issue them a 50% refund. But, we can only issue a full refund of an item or transaction.
We'd also like to do this from clover.com not just our Flex device.

This is extremely important to us. We're a small grocery, and customers will sometimes call or email with a complaint about an item. We need to be able to process a refund for that item without them having to return to the store.

We run plenty of BOGO 1/2 sales round. And there's an issue when it comes to refunding a customer for the full priced item. They should not be receiving the full price for that full-priced item and the partial refund would help eliminate the confusion there currently is with the system.

I think this is very important because when running BOGO 1/2 sales, if the customer is bringing back the full priced item (expecting to keep the item they got at 1/2 off for 1/2 off), they shouldn't get full dollar amount for the full price item. In that case, you would HAVE TO issue a partial amount on the refund for the full priced item! We run bogo 1/2 offs year round so this is crucial.

Yes: a partial refund possibility is needed in my business. I run a hair salon: when I enter a transaction, it usually bundles both the service and the products my client received in my salon. When she tips, she often by mistake tips on the whole transaction instead of just the services: I feel that I am cheating her. I would like the possibility at the end of the day -before I close out the batch- to secretly "refund" the extra tip she put by mistake, so she never has to be angry at me later because she overtipped me, or me to waste time explaining to her I will refund her later and I need to redo the complete transaction. Clover clearly does not pay attention to how business is run in a beauty salon: overtipping by mistake is not a good thing.
