There are a lot of ways to take a payment. Provide your ideas to help advance Clover’s payments acceptance process here. We are listening and we use this feedback to prioritize our roadmap.


Here are quick descriptions of each category so that you can easily locate and post ideas in the correct place!

  1. A lot of retailers in the New England area, California, and Michigan sell beer that comes with a Bottle Deposit of $0.05-$0.10. The cusotmers can then return these cans/bottles for a credit on their transaction or for cash. There are some 3rd party apps that almost work to allow this, but fail in certain areas. Its as simple as adding a calculator that allows someone to multiple the deposit amount by the number of cans/bottles they are taking in, and applying it to the transaction or giving the customer cash.   2. Currently, you can not search by business name. We are required to assign tax exempt customers to transactions in my state for the Comptrollers office. I can not pull up our non-profit or tax exempt customers by business name. There should also be a way to denote a customer as being tax exempt with form on file. Currently, we have to reprint each transaction and manually file it in a customer file (since switching from NCR to Clover). This is creating hours of extra work because half of our customers have a tax exempt status. The workaround is to use…

  3. client wants to ask "is this for here or to go" at the end of the transaction and before the customer pays. the way its currently set up is that the order type has to be selected first and then the order is placed.

  4. why it does not display teh approval status before removing the card... also the approval and disapproval tone both are same... why... very frustrating... have to look at the machine always for the confirmation... some business are such that everything has to be done on the type of the tone weather approved or disapproved

  5. Allow the seller to specify whether or not an item is EBT valid, and automatically split an order so that EBT can only be used to pay for EBT valid items.

    Thank you for your suggestion, but this request does not align with our current priorities. We cannot prioritize Swipe-MSR over Insert-EMV.

  7. As a retail store we need a 'credit payment' option for customers that have made returns. We can create the credit payment option but the button defaults to 'pay full amount' when pressed instead of asking how much the credit is before closing out the transaction. Allow of 'other' payment categories the ability for the admin to set the payment default from pay full amount to split payment so we can enter in credit or partial gift card payments

  8. PLEASE make a way to either alphabetize tax rates as they are displayed or to put the most common at the top or at least add a Search function. I frequently travel to various counties and states and it is painful to scroll through to find the one I am in at the time (and try to find and uncheck the one I was in yesterday). It would also be helpful to have the currently-selected tax rate(s) appear at the top.

  9. PLEASE bring back Tip line on both the Clover terminal AND the printed receipt!
    This option was recently removed and guests want to pay with a credit card at the table on their printed ticket but we also have customers that pay at the counter and choose to tip on the terminal screen too. We need both options back again, please!

  10. Hello Clover community,

    our business would like to combine the signature screen and payment screen together versus outright showing the customer the tips screen first and then the sginature screen second.

    It's a friendlier way to present someone the tip option which in our business is optional (unlike restaurants which is pretty common thing) and the customer doesn't feel pressured to give us more money which some might dislike and find it uncomfortable, ultimately resulting in poor customer service.

  11. At this time, only default tax can be applied to custom items. For some restaurants, this feature is used on a daily or weekly basis and is a critical feature. At the moment we are attempting to use a workaround by creating various custom items in our inventory called "Custom Food "and "Custom Liquor" and applying taxes to them with dollar values of $5, $10, $15, $20, etc. and manually applying the specific taxes to them. However, if this feature isn't implemented in the next 3 months, then we will most likely need to discontinue Clover Dining and switch back…

  13. In Québec, when you buy 6 small cakes or 6 croissants, you don't pay the taxes. You buy 5, you pay the taxes but not for 6. There is no way, on your Clover system, to remove the taxes on those items only. Let say the client buy also 4 coffees; he has to pay the taxes on those coffee but not on those croissants because he bought 6 of them. Can you fix that problem?   16. use case is when clover device was offline for a bit, it comes back online and the device attempts to reconcile any offline payments where we see transaction failure (due to any reason). Please provide a mechanism that would allow the salon to retry the processing of any failed offline payment

  17. Not sure if this is something that can be done - there are some merchants who enter transactions with prepaid Visa cards and it accepts, later on voiding due to lack of funds. Is this unique to prepaid cards? Usually with regular credit cards it declines right away if there are not enough funds - can we install this feature for prepaid credit cards?

    Thanks for your feedback. We're curious, are you referring to card-present or eCommerce payment attempts? 

    Our solutions treat these prepaid cards as general consumer cards, where if the card doesn't have sufficient funds, we return the declined authorization response.

  19. We sell house gift certificates that are redeemed with custom tender payment option. First of all, there is no option to add tip when paying with custom tender option. Secondly, when a service charge is applied (to go around the no tip option), the service charge shows up as unpaid balance on the reports, even though full payment is redeemed with the custom tender. For example, food bill is $50 + $10 service charge. You choose custom tender ("redeem house gift certificate") for the amount ($60). Payment shows up as $60, but under "unpaid balance" it shows $10.

  20. Restaurant business, I cannot add the tips to any of my orders from the third party merchants like UberEat, Online website, or Grubhub.

    Adding and adjusting tips to all orders, not just credit card, should be more flexible.
